Office of Governmental Relations
The Office of Governmental Relations establishes, maintains and strengthens relationships with elected officials, governmental staff, and key community and business stakeholders to advance strategic university goals.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Communicate university policies, projects, needs, and contributions to the surrounding eight counties in the Central Valley
- Actively engages in the community by addressing concerns, issues and opportunities associated with the presence of the first major research university to be built in the 21st century
- Builds strong connections between the university and local and regional community groups in order to address a wide variety of social, economic, educational and environmental issues
- Works closely with all levels of government — local (eight county regions), state (four senators and eight assembly members) and federal (six congressmen) on issues related to higher education
- Regularly communicates with community leaders and organizations monitoring issues and serving as the campus liaison
- Directs and assists with projects and programs that advance the University of California's mission of research, teaching and public service

UC Day 2010
Past
UC Day 2009 — Students and alumni visited the State Capitol to meet with state legislators and advocate for UC Merced support. It was an entire day filled with legislative meetings, the UC Day Luncheon, and the UC Merced Reception.
