A career at the University of California offers a stimulating environment, rich in diverse ideas and talents. These qualities are invaluable in supporting the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service. As an integral part of the most distinguished public research university in the world, faculty and staff share a sense of contributing to something lasting and valuable: public education. Careers in development, alumni relations and governmental advocacy, communications, advancement services and special events play a fundamental role in support of the university’s mission.
Beginning in the Fall Semester, UC Merced students will have an opportunity to participate in the University Relations Internship. This unique program will consist of career potential opportunities with departments within University Relations. The purpose of the program is to prepare highly motivated students for career opportunities in the University’s public relations offices.
Students will be given hands on experience in the public service/non-profit arena, with a goal of encouraging their preparation for a career in the university relations sector, with a particular emphasis on raising funds for the university, a non-profit entity.
The University Relations offices serve constituencies which encompass alumni, parents, faculty, students, staff, friends, corporations, foundations, the media and government. It is expected that the demand for qualified professionals in these areas will increase as student enrollments grow and additional support for the university is needed. As a result, many career opportunities will exist on UC campus public relations offices in Development, Governmental Relations, Communications, and Alumni Relations
